AVI-AR02
4 Hours
Description
Panoramic views and the El Boquerón crater
We begin the experience with a scenic drive to the San Salvador Volcano, also known as Quetzaltepeque, where we will enjoy stunning views of the city and the surrounding mountains. At the top, we will visit the impressive El Boquerón Crater, a massive volcanic crater that houses a smaller crater inside called El Boqueroncito, formed after the 1917 eruption.
Lava flows and Maya heritage
Next, we will explore the northern slope of the volcano to observe the solidified lava flow from that historic eruption. Then, our journey continues to the extraordinary archaeological site of Joya de Cerén, an ancient Maya village exceptionally preserved under volcanic ash.
UNESCO World Heritage Site
This invaluable archaeological site, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers visitors a unique and fascinating glimpse into the daily lives of the ancient Maya people. At the end of this historical and natural tour, we will return directly to your hotel.
